Close Counters
Emerging from the depths of Tasmania are Allan McConnell and Finn Rees who are Close Counters.
Coming from a background in jazz, the boys have molded their sound into an electrifying fusion of electronic, hip-hop and soul with a healthy dose of dense synths and driving basslines.
Since their recent beginnings, Close Counters have supported the likes of Peking Duk, What So Not, Tall Black Guy, Tkay Maidza and Shaggy.
Their first single “Fluctuate” was named Track of the Day on international music blog Indie Shuffle, and the track’s music video was aired on ABC TV’s RAGE program. Australian website Pilerats described their debut EP as “diverse as it is interesting as it is just plain groovy”, and Triple J host Veronica Milson dubbed their single “Picture Me” a “straight up party tune from the word go!”.
Close Counters have performed audio/visual sets, DJ sets and live shows ranging from stripped back club mixes to multi-instrument setups with featuring vocalists. Finn and Allan are both experienced performers and have played at events including Falls Festival,
MONA FOMA and Party In The Paddock.
They kicked off 2018 by releasing their first full-length project called SOULACOASTA, a 12-track whirlwind ride through soul with no safety brakes. The project developed during Close Counters nine month Europe trip, in which they dug up a number of rare groove records whilst crate digging. The end result is a dance-floor worthy mixtape of organic house/boogie/disco and more.
“Way Out ft. Au Dré” is Close Counters latest release, hitting the soundwaves on Friday 9 November and will be their first track out via Exist. Recordings. The disco-soul track continues to deliver their signature brew of body grooving beats and will be part of a larger body of work still to come...
